Flowers Around Town in June

Monday, 2 June 2025

.
A magnificent, mature catalpa on Mine Street in Flemington. No idea if it is the southern catalpa, Catalpa bignonioides,

or the northern catalpa, C. speciosa, as both have often been planted outside their natural range.
What I DO know is that this is a splendid specimen that had me swerving to the side of the road
in order to take pictures. Catalpa are a somewhat rapidly growing tree so this may not be ancient.

.

The New York Botanical Garden is featuring an exhibition of Van Gogh's flowers. He is intimately thought of in connection with sunflowers, so they are at the front of my mind. However I was not expecting to see sunflowers at the opthamologist's office today. What a coincidence!

As my husband (an engineer) would say, first define your terms. What is a coincidence?
Something that's not planned or arranged but seems like it is. Sunflowers there at NYBG.

And here in the eye doctor's office. Amazingly good looking for artificial flowers, don't you think.
